Why the Same PPF Can Cost ₹40,000 More at Two Installers — And How PMD Fixes It
Paint protection film and sun film pricing in India is opaque by design — and that opacity hides a second, bigger risk: substitution. Here's exactly how PMD's custody model removes both.

Most car owners who pay for premium PPF or sun film have no way of confirming that what actually gets installed on their car is what they paid for. That's not a minor inconvenience — it's the single biggest trust problem in India's paint protection industry, and it's the exact problem PMD was built to remove.
The Two Problems With Buying PPF or Sun Film Today
The industry has two structural issues, and they compound each other.
The first is pricing. Most detailing centres quote one bundled number that covers product, application, and prep work together. You never see what the film itself actually costs versus what you're paying for labour. The same film can vary by ₹40,000 between installers — not because the product changed, but because the bundling hides the markup.
The second is substitution. Once you hand your car over for installation, you have no way to verify that the film going onto your paint is the one you were quoted. A cheaper film in a genuine box, or a genuine-looking film that isn't from an authorized distributor, looks identical once it's on the car. You'd have no way to know.
The Custody Model: What Actually Changes
PMD's fix is structural, not promotional: the product ships to you, the customer, before it goes anywhere near an installer.
You see the product price, separately from installation
Every product on PMD shows its own price — film cost, coating cost, whatever it is — separate from installation or application cost. Nothing is bundled into one opaque total. You know exactly what the material costs before you ever talk to an installer.
You hold the product before it touches your car
The film or coating ships directly to you. You verify the brand, the batch, the seal — before handing it to your own chosen installer. For ceramic coatings specifically, this also means you can use any doorstep detailing service for prep and application, paying only for skilled labour, because the product cost is already covered separately.
What This Looks Like With Real Numbers
If a detailing centre quotes you ₹1.5 lakh for a 6-mil PPF job with no breakdown, that number could mean almost anything — a fair price for a premium film plus fair labour, or a marked-up film with a big hidden margin. When the film price and the installation price are separate, you can actually evaluate whether the labour charge is reasonable on its own — and whether the film is what you were told it was, because you held it yourself.
What PMD Doesn't Claim
To be direct about the limits here: the custody model removes doubt about the product. It does not, by itself, guarantee installation quality — that still depends on the installer you choose. PMD does not currently operate a certified installer network; we can help you find someone to install what you've bought, but the installation itself is a separate relationship you manage directly.
The Bottom Line
You shouldn't need blind trust to protect a car you spent years earning. Separating the product from the installation — and letting you verify the product yourself — is how PMD makes sure you don't have to.
