The 3M Ceramic IM50 is a nano-ceramic sun film cut for the side and rear windows of SUVs. Nano-ceramic film is metal-free, so it does not interfere with GPS, FASTag or mobile signal. On 3M's clear-glass test the film transmits 63% of visible light (VLT) and rejects 46% of total solar energy (TSER), 76% of infrared in the 900–1,000 nm band (IRR), 99% of UV and 29% of glare. On typical 73% VLT car glass, 3M's data puts the installed VLT at about 52%.

PMD Index™8.2/10
✓ Transparency+PMD Index is our independent read of this film's own published data — not a brand claim. Green rows cite a real test method; amber rows are a real number the brand states but hasn't proven; red rows mean the brand hasn't disclosed this at all in the catalogs, TDS sheets, and warranty documents we have on file — not that we've confirmed it's absent. Think we missed something? Ask us on WhatsApp and we'll take another look.
What actually matters
PMD's Take
The Ceramic IM50 film from 3M is a solid choice for your SUV, especially if you're looking to keep the cabin cooler. It uses nano-ceramic technology, which is top-tier for heat rejection, blocking a significant 46% of the sun's total heat energy. This film also excels in reducing glare by 29%, which is a real help when driving into the sun or facing bright headlights at night. Importantly, it’s confirmed to be signal-safe, so your GPS and phone signals will work just fine. Every claim here is backed by real test methods, with nothing left to guesswork — you can check all the cited specs directly through 3M's own documents linked above.

Why This Product?
A lighter, heat-focused tint for SUV side and rear glass: 46% total solar energy rejection and 76% infrared rejection in a metal-free film that leaves GPS, FASTag and phone signal alone, plus 99% UV rejection to help protect the cabin from fading.
Good to Know
Most cabin heat arrives as infrared and visible light. Ceramic IM films use nano-ceramic particles, not metal, to reject infrared, which is why 3M can quote 76% IRR (measured on the film alone) while the film stays light at 63% VLT. TSER, 46% here, is the broader figure: it counts the whole solar spectrum and is measured on glass, so real cars differ a little. Because the film is metal-free it does not interfere with GPS, FASTag or mobile signal. 3M's tables cover two glass types: 63% VLT on clear glass and 52% on typical green car glass. The second is closer to what you will see on the car.
Honest Notes from PMD
At 63% VLT on clear glass (about 52% on typical car glass) this is a light tint. It does not give strong privacy, and its 46% TSER is lower than the darker IM tiers. It is made for side and rear glass, not the front windshield. Tint limits vary by state, so check current rules before choosing a level.
PMD Advisory
Have it fitted by a professional installer — 3M specifies wet application only. Clean with a neutral, abrasive-free glass cleaner and a soft cloth, and avoid sticking tapes, suction cups or stickers on the film.
The PMD Promise
Genuine film with actual VLT and TSER specs — not inflated claims from grey market products
Film cost shown separately from fitting charges — you always know what you're paying for the product itself
Film ships to you before fitting. Check the brand label and spec values yourself
India road-use note: PMD lists each film's measured VLT against the CMVR Rule 100(2) floor (70% for windscreens, 50% for side windows) so you can compare specs accurately. Meeting that VLT floor is a separate question from whether applying aftermarket film is itself a permitted modification — PMD does not label a film "road-legal" solely because of its VLT.
